Chesea Londra se prezintă la startul noului sezon cu un nou antrenor, Maurizio Sarri, care în ultimii 3 ani a fost la Napoli. El l-a înlocuit pe Antonio Conte și nu a venit cu mâna goală, ci și cu mijlocașul italian de origine braziliană Jorginho, pentru care Chelsea. Jucătorul a fost în vârful listei de achiziții la Manchester City, dar londonezii au reușit să-l ”deturneze”. Înaintea acestui meci, Chelsea a jucat două meciuri de pregătire în Statele Unite, ambele încheiate la egalitate în timpul regulamentar, 1-1 cu Inter și 1-1 cu Arsenal.

Manchester City pornește pentru al treilea an la rând cu Pep Guardiola pe banca tehnică, dar față de ultimele sezoane a mișcat mai subțire pe piața transferurile. Până la această oră s-a ”limitat” la un singur transfer mai scump, cel al lui Riyad Mahrez. Pentru City poate fi și o repetiție înaintea derby-ului cu Arsenal din prima etapă, programat peste o săptămână.
